Contraindications

Absolute Conditions

  • Age < 15
  • HIV
  • Pregnancy
  • Photic Seizures
  • UV exposure within two weeks
  • Epidermolysis Bullosa
  • Pemphigus vulgaris (PV)
  • Bullous pemphigoid (BP)
  • Kaposi’s Sarcoma
  • History of skin cancer in the treatment area
  • Active disease process in the treatment area

Absolute Drugs

  • Anticoagulants – (Arixtra, Coumadin, Fragmin, Heparin, Innohep, Lovenox, Plavix, Ticlid)
  • Gold Therapy – within 1 year
  • Accutane – within 6 months
  • Monodox – within 1 month
  • Amiodarone, Cordarone, Pacerone – within two years
  • Retin-A, Mirco, Renova, Differin, Tazorac, Avage, Vaniqa – within two weeks

Relative Conditions

  • Systemic Lupus Erythematosis (SLE)
  • Insulin Dependent Diabetics (IDDM)

Relative Drugs

  • Chronic Use: do not stop medication, inform client of photosensitivity possibility
  • Phenothiazines – Mellaril, Compazine, Serentil, Stelazine, Thorazine, Trilafon
  • Thiazides – Aldactazide, Diuril, Dyazide, Hydrodiuril, Maxide, Microzide, Modeuretic  
  • Sulfonylureas – Amaryl, Diabeta, Diabinese, Glucotrol, Glucovance, Glynase, Micronase, Carbtrol, Tegretol
  • Tetracyclines – Adoxa, Doryx, Minocin, Sumycin, Vibramycin
  • Acute Use: wait two weeks after last dose
  • Amoxicillin, Augmentin, Bactrim, Septra, Macrobid, Macrodantin
  • Quinolones – Avelox, Cipro, Floxin, Levaquin, Noroxin, Tequin, Zagam

Relative Conditions in the area to be treated

  • Scarred burns, skin grafts, herpes, shingles, vitiligo, skin cancer, tattoo
  • Skin Rejuvenation:  facial surgery or >30% peel – 6 weeks; hot wax – 1 week
